Song of the Week – Jan 19, 2009

David Rush Featuring Kevin Rudolph and Pitbull – Shooting Star

Who knew Kevin Rudolph was more then a one hit wonder… Rudolph on the Chorus makes this song, it gives it the potential to be a sexy club banger.
As far as Pitbull, he gives a nice verse to the song, which is saying a lot because I’m not the biggest Pitbull fan lyrically.
The newbie of the group David Rush does a nice job on what could be his first single… I don’t see much of a future for him after this though considering Rudolph and Pitbull make the song. Then Again i thought the same thing about Rudolph and his single “Let It Rock”. I thought Little Wayne was the reason for Rudolph getting attention.. but Rudolph looks like hes got some tricks up his sleeve… he could be like a “Dancier” version of Robin Thicke.

Jay-Z featuring Santogold – Brooklyn We Go Hard

I heard Jay-Z had a new track for the Notorious movie… and although I’m not a big fan of Santogold like everyone else on the web, i was a little doubtful of this song… But WOW. I’ve been listening to it all week. The Beat is by Kanye and it Samples Santogold… it’s pure fire. This song makes me want to be from brooklyn, so i could rep it as hard as Jay-Z and Santogold do.
This is one of the songs you put on and you just cant help but walk with a swagger with. This is the second time in the past couple months that Hova has made a grimy track. The First being his verse on “Swagger Like Us“… Which is by far the best verse on the song. Jay has always been on top of the game but recently he has shown us his hood side… and i like when he reps it like that. He Can do both The Fresh Button Up and The sagging jeans.
I’m interested to see what else is on the Notorious soundtrack… But most of all this just helps my excitment of wanting to see the movie.

MGMT – “Kids”( A- )

So this song isn’t exactly new but but I’ve been hearing it on the radio and ever since, for the last two weeks i have been listening to it non-stop. I dunno if it’s the hypnotic keyboard or what but this song makes me want to chillax and get up and dance at the same time. The Video is weird, but who cares. ( A- )

Eminem Featuring Dr Dre and 50 Cent – “Crack a Bottle” – ( B )

Guess whose back… Back Again… SHADY’S BACK! This record isn’t the best Em we’ve seen, but that’s ok because he’s back. This track is more of a bragging and boasting track between the 3 rap legends but the beat is sick and it’s just an appetizer for what Em has waiting for us all with his new album. ( B )

N.E.R.D. – “Sooner or Later”( B )

N.E.R.D. Always does there own thing… and I love that about them. Pharrell thinks he can sing, he can’t but i love this jam… and I love the video too, but Universal blocked it, so i could only post this. Check it out though. It’s Pharrell at Wall Street. NERD as always comes up with a unique sound and song. ( B )

Fall Out Boy – “I Don’t Care” – ( C- )

I admit, I like Fall Out Boy, but this track doesnt do much for me. Maybe their trying hard (I blame Pete Wentz), but Patrick Stump still sounds good. The video has it’s moments, but again, it’s just too plain. ( C- )

Keri Hilson Featuring Lil Wayne – “Turnin Me On” - ( B+ )

I’m lovin this jam. I was at the club the second time i heard it, it’s got such a sick beat. It’s Sexy. And When lil’ Wayne comes in, he just sets it off. Though I’m a little worried… Is anyone else noticing Wayne re-using rhymes in his song… or at least just really similar lines. At One Point he says “I’m the Shit and thats the only thing you smell around me”… I know he’s used a line like that twice already. He does it with a few other lines in this song too. After making so many songs, dude has used up all of his rhymes. Still a hot song ( B+ )
